Boy
Scouts of America
Founded in the USA on February 8, 1910 by William Boyce,
Originated in England, 1909 by Robert Baden-Powell
The
purpose of the Boy Scouts of Americachartered by Congress
in 1916is to provide an educational program for boys
and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities
of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness.
Boy Scouts participate in many activities that further these
basic goals, and are provided a safe environment in which
they can have fun. Camping and hiking are part of the experience,
as is rock climbing, rafting, canoeing, computers, skiing,
snowboarding and many more activities that interest today's
youth. Boys learn basic skills, gaining knowledge and leadership
experience as they advance in rank. The ultimate goal of all
Scouts is to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, a difficult
but achievable goal. |
